Dwarf BeansDwarf beans (in particular French dwarf beans) are high in magnesium, manganese and zinc and B group vitamins. They are also an excellent source of soluble fibre which lowers cholesterol. 100 grams of dwarf beans (around 10 – 12 beans) provides nearly half the suggested daily amount of magnesium and manganese, in addition to a quarter of the suggested daily amount of potassium and zinc.
The green colour of beans is due to chlorophyll and that is where magnesium is stored, eating the pod of the bean maximises the nutrients available. Magnesium is important for the following bodily functions:
Beans are one of the best natural sources of B vitamins. Low levels of B vitamins can cause slowing of internal chemical reactions. This can result in feeling lethargic and having a lack of energy. Beans contain the following 5 out of 7 B vitamins:
B2 – Enhances health of hair, skin and nails when combined with Vitamin A.
