Melon

Melons can help keep your skin vibrant and healthy as they are high in vitamin C, and are a concentrated source of beta carotene which can convert to the antioxidant vitamin A. While rock melon has higher beta carotene content, the red color of water melons is partly due to the antioxidant Lycopene. Tomatoes are well known for their Lycopene content which has been shown in research to be protective against cancers in humans, specifically prostate and breast cancer. Water melons also are a good supply of Lycopene and may provide similar beneficial protective factors. Melons are also considered a good source of potassium and have high water content. Both these factors combine to help us maintain optimum hydration.

Vitamin C can contribute to glowing healthy skin by strengthening the small capillaries which nourish your skin and carry away wastes. Optimum circulation definitely helps keep skin to remain clear and feel rejuvenated. The collagen that gives skin structure similarly relies on vitamin C. A diet plentiful in Vitamin C could be a natural defense against some effects of age.

Day to day circumstances can give rise to irritants and toxins that can lead to reddened puffy skin due to inflammatory processes, vitamin C can act as both an antioxidant and an antihistamine to help alleviate the incidences of inflammation which can lead to calmer even skin tones.

Vitamin A has a special role in maintaining our skin, alongside other tissues of our bodies. If we are short on vitamin A we can convert beta carotene. Therefore melons are especially helpful in that they provide plenty of this antioxidant.

Home grown melons are an excellent means of accessing plenty of refreshing hydrating fluids and nutrients important for rejuvenating and refreshing us.
