FLATTO® Fabulous


FLATTO® Peaches have been extremely popular over recent years, and now there are two new FLATTO® varieties for home gardeners to enjoy - a Peach and for the first time, a Nectarine! The fruit is loved by kids and adults alike, being easy to eat and virtually unsquashable in lunch boxes! The stone can be removed by simply pushing the centre of the fruit, turning it into a fruity donut!

 

In Spring, the trees produces an abundance of white-pink blossom (40-50 flowers per metre of branch!). Both varieties are self fertile. The trees will grow to around 3.5m tall, but can be espaliered into a fan shape in smaller gardens.

The new yellow fleshed varieties are named ‘Button Bright™’ (Nectarine) and ‘Sweet Bonnet™’ (Peach). These new varieties join ‘Sweet Cap™’ (Peach – white fleshed) which was released by Waimea Nurseries in 2009. All three Flatto® varieties are grown exclusively by Waimea Nurseries.


FLATTO® NECTARINE BUTTON BRIGHT™
Produces large crops of sweet, tasty, yellow-fleshed fruit in mid-late February. The fruit weighs between 100-140g each. (Provisional Plant Variety Rights Protection – Oriola).


FLATTO® PEACH SWEET BONNET™
Produces large crops of sweet, tasty, yellow-fleshed fruit in early-mid February. The fruit weighs between 100-130g each. (Provisional Plant Variety Rights Protection – Oriane).


These new varieties are available from garden retailers nationwide from March, perfectly timed for Autumn planting – one of the best times to plant fruit trees.

Petunia Black Velvet

Ariane and Divineapples

 

Ariane and Divine™ make growing apples easy as they are naturally resistant to black spot and can be grown with basically no spraying. While older varieties are often hardy to disease, these new varieties have superior fruit quality, flavour and storage, as well as being more productive.

 

Ariane has been grown in French organic orchards for around five years, and now Kiwi gardeners can enjoy this fantastic. The fruit is medium sized with a flattened shape and a sweet/sharp balanced flavour. Ariane ripens in late summer, and is delicious eaten straight from the tree or refrigerated for winter eating.

 

Divine™ is just like Royal Gala with mildly sweet flavours and moderate acidity. Light cottony crisp flesh. Divine apples are best picked in late summer, with the flavour developing when refrigerated for up to 3 months.

Scent From Heaven

Hebe Jewel of the Nile


An easy care garden shrub which always has a point of interest with cream and green foliage featuring contrasting rich ruby red stems. The ruby colour on the stems spreads across the foliage to give the plant a sparkling jewel like appearance in the colder months. Autumn brings a smattering of bold ruby coloured flowers.

 

Jewel of the Nile is perfect in pots and thrives in a full sun position, although needs to be protected from very harsh frosts.

Coprosma Scarlet O’Hara

 

Coprosma Scarlett O'Hara features delicious reddish orange variegated foliage which changes with the seasons. After the rich crimson tones of summer the cooler months bring a rich burgundy and black appearance which will make a lovely accent to Autumn or Spring flowering perennials.

Nectarine ‘Mabel’


Found as a seedling underneath a ‘Blackboy’ peach tree by a Waikato gardener named Mabel, this nectarine is unique with it’s stunning dark purple foliage and delicious sweet purple-skinned nectarines.

 

This variety will grow well in all areas of the country, ripens in mid season and is quite hardy to diseases. As with all nectarines, this variety is self fertile.
