Sweetcorn

Fresh homegrown corn helps you feel good as the high fiber makes it satisfying to eat and it’s plentiful in antioxidants which can assist in keeping you in optimum health.

Corn is a great source of both types of dietary fiber, but particularly insoluble fiber. This fiber can contribute to energy, because it helps nourish the friendly bacteria in your colon. This means the bacteria are able to manufacture nutrients which go straight to the liver and are released as energy. The bacteria being in good form also helps keep our bowel cells healthy and can be a preventative measure for developing bowel conditions.

Alongside keeping our lower intestine healthy, insoluble fiber also provides the ‘bulk’ for waste moving out of our system. Healthy fiber sources like corn can contribute to feeling better on the inside!

Corn has also been shown to contain good amounts of some proteins. Proteins and fiber can function together in the digestive process to steady the metabolism of sugars and prevent spikes in blood sugar. What this means is that energy and your sense of wellbeing is more reliable and less susceptible to the highs and lows of burst of sugar.

Yellow corn has shown to contain excellent amounts of the antioxidant carotenoids, lutein and zeaxanthin. These nutrients have been researched and often shown to help strengthen eye health, typically that which degrades with aging. Corn is also a good source of Vitamin C which also acts as an antioxidant which can help build immunity, it is also essential for using collagen to build firm healthy skin.
