Why are mini cobs growing inside the main corn cob?

  Southland

Q.

Why are mini cobs growing inside the main cob of our corn? Tastes great but several have multi cobs and are useless.

Hi Sandra, this can be caused by a number of factors including: poor pollination - cold or windy weather at time of pollination, not enough fertiliser in the soil, or poor soil moisture. Was the corn planted in blocks to get the best pollination as it is wind pollinated and the plants need to be planted close together.
