  • Just wondering if you are able to put a print option on your recipes? :) I like to print them off and pop into a folder. Trying this one this arvo.

    Cathy

  • Hi Cathy, thank you for your question. The print option is available at the top right, just under the recipe name - it is a green icon with 'print' next to it. Hope this helps! Thanks, Tui Team

    jenna

  • Beautiful cake, so easy, I used half apple, half pear in the recipe and added cinnamon to the mix. delicious

    Meryl

  • Great idea Meryl, thanks for sharing! Jenna - Tui Team

    jenna

  • So any type of apple?

    Maria

  • Going to try it this weekend. Thanks. Btw, I was unable to find the print option either. No icon showing on my screen. :)

    Marg

  • I once had a microwave recipe called "Apple Sauce Spice Cake" that used stewed apple cinnamon etc, and because it was always at hand it was lost the recipe in a kitchen fire. I have searched for the recipe in every book I could find, without success. It was made in a ring tin and cooked for only 12 minutes, but I cannot remember the details of the recipe. I'd love someone to produce a similar recipe again. Please.

    Gaynor McCartney

  • Hi Maria, yes any type of apple will work for this cake. Thanks! Tui Team

    gemma

  • Hi Marg, that's great we hope you enjoy it! Thanks for letting us know we will speak to our web people about the print button. Thanks, Gemma - Tui Team

    gemma

  • I think there is a print button but it is hidden behind the "I recommend this" at the top of the page so that icon needs to be moved. I saw it when I tried to copy and paste the recipe ...Debbie

    Debbie

  • If you can't print it just copy and paste. I do this and paste to a blank Word document

    Joy

  • No print option on mine either

    Vicki

  • Have no ring tin could a round cake tin be used

    Edna

  • Wow, just made this dutch apple cake, yummy, althought I added some baked rhubbard and 1/2 tes..vanilla, family loved it...So much you can change in this cake, and nice with cream or ice-cream. Sure will make this again. .

    Ruby

  • Hi Edna, thank you for getting in touch. We have only ever tried this cake using a ring tin. Let us know how you get on if you do end up trying it in a round cake tin. Thanks, Jenna - Tui Team

    jenna

    • I have a similar recipe and use a round tin with no hole works fine I use 5 apples which gives it even more apple flavour, and put 1 teaspoon mixed spice and 1 teaspoon cinnamon in the cake, also going to try this recipe. I am always being asked to make this apple cake recipe yummy.

      Lynn

  • Hi Vicki, thank you for this feedback. We have our web company looking into this issue. Thanks, Jenna - Tui Team

    jenna

  • Hi Edna I don't have a ring tin either. I grease up a jar (butter, oil or whatever suits) and pop it in the middle of a round tin. You'll need to be a bit careful as you spoon in the mixture, but it's not too tricky. Saves buying a ring tin and works beautifully. Wait for ten minutes or so before taking out the jar. Now I'll have to try that with this recipe!

    Louise

  • Beautiful recipe: Thanks

    Pare

  • This is an excellent recipe. I have made it several times. I have also added some blueberries to the mix. Very nice indeed.

    Sarah

  • A big tick from me. My daughter said it tasted like something from the bakery. Will definitely do this again.

    Vive

  • Fantastic Vive! Thanks for your feedback. - Tui Team

    jenna

  • I made this cake using pears for a change. Turned out just as lovely as the apples. Nice :-*

    Jan Madigan

  • Hi Jan, that's great to know. Thanks for sharing this idea :) - Tui Team

    jenna

  • I have a very similar recipe and use feijoas, instead of apples or half and half with apples, which is always popular and serve it with yogurt instead of cream.

    Lynley

  • Hi Lynley, that sounds delicious! Thanks for sharing your variation :) - Tui Team

    jenna

  • You can use a plain round tin for most recipes calling for a ring pan - just use a small empty tin can (with the paper removed) in the centre of your regular round cake pan.

    Jennifer Bennett

  • Nice and easy... I like that! Good idea from another comment suggesting adding rhubarb. Going to make this in the next couple of days...yum!

    Helen Hill

    jenna

  • I made this adding a teaspoon of cinnamon to the mixture and using raw sugar and Gala apples. Will lower the sugar next time

    Ann B

  • Hi, do the eggs need to be beaten till thick and pale or just frothy with sugar dissolved, just wondered as receipe doesn't say, thought it might affect texture of the cake?

    Denise

  • Hi Denise, the eggs and sugar need to be beaten until mixed and frothy. We hope you enjoy the recipe, Tui Team.

    jenna

  • I have made it with gluten free flour and it worked wonderfully. I used an apple, some feijoas and some leftover pineaple and it was really tasty with a bit of ground ginger and pinch of salt. I only put sugar, no cinnamon, on top.

    Yvonne Barnes

  • Sounds lovely Yvonne, thanks for sharing! - Tui Team

    Val

  • Could you please clarify how much cinnamon and sugar should be sprinkled on top.

    Lynne

  • Hi Lynne, we suggest adding cinnamon and sugar to taste - start with a light sprinkle over the cake and you can always add more if preferred. Thanks, Tui Team

    jenna

  • This is my favorite cake for taking to a function. Every last crumb is always cleaned up. I made it with gluten-free flour last week and I think it was even tastier than usual. Making it again today for a work morning tea and will be gluten free again.

    Cathy

  • I've made this cake and experimented with it several times since seeing this recipe on the 'Tui' news letter. It has always been a winner with friends and family. My favourite so far has been to replace the apples with chopped up pears, and put in chopped up crystallised ginger in place of the lemon rind. MMMMM Delicious.

    Pat McAllister

  • The colleagues loved this cake when I made it for a work morning tea and a number wanted the recipe. Light sponge-like cake with lovely chunks of apple and a citrus hit. Don't skimp on the cinnamon sugar topping either as its delicious!

    O Wilson

  • I don't have cake ring tin, so created one using a small coconut milk can in the centre with baking paper around it and filled it with water. I also added a handful of sultanas to the mix, very yummy cake.
