Q.
I have half an acre of bare hedges which I hope to grow sweet peas in it. Since the hedges are made of cut twigs and branches, would my sweet peas be able to use them to climb?

Hi Janet, yes, the sweet peas will grow into the bare hedges but may need some help to get there to start with so you may need to provide stakes for them to climb up initially.
Make sure the ground is prepared and dug over well before planting. It isn't advisable to plant them straight into the soil without cultivating first and adding some garden mix or potting mix to the hole.
